Rules for Gym Battles

Post by Luxormaniac on Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:21 am

I was wondering whether Gym Challengers had to use the same team to defeat all of the Gym Leaders. I certainly hope so- building teams against an individual type is too easy. Also, I think there should be some general format of losing badges. Yes, losing. Otherwise, someone could spam challenges and win once out of a thousand times due to hax and repeat for each leader- and do we want that to happen? I digress, but I think that perhaps a badge should be lost for every three consecutive losses in Gym Battles, or something of that nature.

Good questoin.

On one forum I went to you had to wait 3 days before challenging a gym leader. Maybe we could use something like that? Losing a badge is just...cruel. I'm for waiting a few days before rechallenging. If most people want to use that idea we could have a poll to see how long the time waiting should be.

BTW trying to get through the whole gym system with one team alone...I'm against that. You realize that the gym teams are counter teams to counter teams of their type. Err, I mean, being the normal gym leader, my team is a counter team to a normal counter team. IE I have flying/normals for fighting, users with EQ or a fighting move to cover rocks and steels, and then normal types with dark moves for ghosts. And on top of that I get a wild card. Really, counter teams can be dealt with. If our gym leaders.....err....leader starts losing like crazy Rolling Eyes maybe we could change something.

Hey guys, I'm glad you brought these issues up. One, challenging is as followed. You have a team of 6 and 6 Pokemon that you name to me/Dark Wolf when you start your quest. In between gym leaders you can switch Pokemon in and out, but you can only devise teams from those 12 Pokemon. And, If a gym leader starts losing like crazy I may revoke their job as gym leader and start retesting. And, there will be a 5 day waiting period if you lose against a gym leader. And Locopoke, I might take what you said into consideration and make it a best out of 3 match to obtain your gym badge.

OK then. Do not count Huntofthelion's battle against me for the 12 pokemon purposes. Unless the 6 he used against me, he wants to use on his group of 12. I never told Hunt that you could only use 12 pokes...I didnt know. And I don't even remember his team lol.

I'm against best out of 3. The gym leader will know the challenger's team lol...which is kinda unfair. What does everyone else think on this?

Well Root, the trainer will know the leader's team too.

I'm totally behind Absol's suggestions- I vote for going with those. Best of 3 and 12 Pokemon pool to choose from sounds fantastic. And whenever you change the 12 poke pool, you lose all your badges (the "New Game" option.)
Nice job.

EDIT: When you say "12 Pokemon" do you mean the actual pokemon (Machamp) or the entire set (No Guard Machamp @ Leftovers, 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spe, Adamant, Dynamicpunch/Stone Edge/Rest/Sleep Talk)?

I'd like all 12 Pokemon with their Ev's items etc etc. Just a safety precaution I guess. And for now, all gyms are closed! So Root, don't start challenges just yet. Plus, you are responsible for making your own Gym Thread, which will be evaluated/edited by me. And please reword what you said about losing all your badges please. And please remember, all battles MUST be saved. Or else they technically don't count! Thank you.

The gym leader can change teams. The challenger only has 12 pokes to choose from. Or does the gym leader keep the same team?

Absol...Dark Wolf said my thread was OK. Will the game with me and hunt still count?

The Gym Leader is also allowed 6 Sub Pokemon which will also be PM'd to me. Damn I'm important here Very Happy. And um, not at the moment because matches may only begin after all 8 gym leaders are confirmed.

I say that all gym battles should only be official until we have all gym leaders.

fire gym was too hard to attempt, there really isnt enough fire combos to make it effective.. also every pokemon and their grandma have earthquake or a water attack >.<

therefore im trying electric, which ive been using as my standard team on ladder matches as a kind of test - its extremely good o.0; (dang i have to think of 5 more subs for it as well.. oh well i have a couple pokemon in mind)

Electric sounds like a good idea, blackfire. It's only weakness is ground which zapdos and rotom already resist. But on the attacking side you would have to deal with blissey...and alot of electrics are special...hm. BTW don't worry about the subs yet. My normal team has 6 pokemon that work extremely well together and it would be hard to make another team that good.

BTW, for absol, am I allowed to have two snorlaxes in the twelve pokemon, each snorlax with different sets. As long as I don't use them both in one battle. You said you need the exact set, not just the pokemon, sooooo...

Yes Gyra fits in perfectly on mono-electric. Beats pretty much every ground type, has taunt for blissey, bait for electivire...It is gyra right?

Bingo, Zahtzee, Our Servey Says! GYRA!! DINGDINGDING!!
you hit the nail on the head! well done 10 gold stars for you =P

lol, anyway yeah, gyarados was basically the one and only choice that was ever needed here.

theres also a nice electric type dragon counter - magnezone... so basically electric has everything it needs to defend itself and have a good attack spread, good for a gym team if you ask me
